Encouraging Words

Friday
November 4
When was the last time that you just said... to some one... " I care" . I am telling you the greatest encouragement to most folks is the realization by some one .. that they are not on the journey alone... try it today...

Life is a lot like walking through a pasture in Wauchula you have to watch where you step!
Psalm 1:1 "Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take..." He just says!

Let me quickly say that there is a place you can serve any where the storm was... you can cut trees - serve meals, clean up houses and care for hurting... contact Red Cross, your church...send money -pray..
Wednesday
August 24
The reality is that life will through you curves. When it does keep your eye on ball - (maybe on what really matters and treasure that)

Knowing the unknown people in your life... will you do that this week. I mean think of the folks that regularly are in your life and you do not know them... The checkout lady at the grocery store, the teller at the bank, the garbage pick up folks ... you can think of others.... when you think of them say some thing or do something to encourage them will you ? You will be glad you did...

Please be sure and be faithful to friends. I think some times we take friends for granted. We assume that a call or card even a simple gift speaks volumes. I am certain that I am making a greater effort and think it matters. Join me.

How is your weekend planning going. Generally by the time Friday rolls around we find ourselves with our weekend all worked out.. and seldom do we plan worship and ministry as a part of that... so here is my encouragement as you think about the golf match, the boat trip or dinner out.. think also about honoring the Heavenly Father as well... be encouraged...

Memories are amazing journeys. I preached at the 60th anniversary of Killarney Baptist Church this weekend. It was a thrill! It was a church I served over 30 years ago. They remembered sermons, visits, funerals and laughter. I wept, laughed and remembered. Then it occurred to me I am making memories together. Which is why I sign my letters with Psalm 71:18 - look it up.

Have you ever heard of random acts of kindness? I think the idea is a great one and I think I am going to try it awhile... bottles of water that are cool for guys I see working outside. A meal for a police officer... no one knows who does it and they just experience a random act of kindness... try it on your spouse of your kids and see what happens... you be an encourager...

I really like you! That is what she said. She was an older (than me) lady and she recognized me from an interim pastorate from years ago. I realized how kind of a remark that was and how good it made me feel. Our words do that you know. They enable us to function better. The writer of James knew that and told us a tamed tongue was important. Be encouraged - I like you! But even more He loves you!

It is The weekend and I figured you were wondering what to do... I want to purpose in all you do plan a sabbath! I mean even if you are not a religious person please be aware that the need to slow down and rest... Taking stock of life is important... Look. At priorities, look at schedules, determine what is the place you want to spend time next week., read a book, make a call, take a nap... Just do nothing.. The rest will do you good... Be encouraged my friend.
Wednesday
July 20
Has anyone said "thank you" or "I appreciate your effort today"? How about " how great of you for buying my lunch"? One of the sad things about our "entitled" culture is that we just assume people ought to do for us what we deserve. Bad flaw... We need to be polite and appreciative, so THANKS And I APPRECIATE you! Just be encouraged!

"Hit the ground running" - a statement that echoes from my childhood. Not sure where I heard it but the idea was you had to hustle to make it! I love the work ethic it produced; but candidly it left me with some bad habits and missed moments. I still eat too fast. Can never really sit still and quiet time is a stretch for me... I simply think I have too much to do... So I am always running... I am learning but it is a slow process which is really hard for one who is always running!

I bought a razor that I love. It comes with a lotion that is pushed through the blades and makes for a smooth shave. I love the razor and the shave. Problem is; after two months the dispenser is empty and no one stocks the lotion! Now the razor is just another razor. I was thinking about the tragedy of a faith that looses it's power. We got Him(the Holy Spirit) when we were saved but quickly by a bad habit of not replenishing the indwelling spirit by a lackadaisical relationship with the Lord we lose the power of the Spirit not because it is not available we just can't find it because we are not looking for it. Paul prayed that we might be "filled with the Spirit"... I would encourage you to daily replenish the spirit by prayer and bible reading and study!
Wednesday
July 13
Wednesday is often the day we call " hump day". We say if we make through this day we are half way thru the week. But I want to declare it "launch day". From here I am going to launch a caring project. I am going to plan the rest of my week to encourage two shut ins before the week is over, and make a trip to check on a friend. Launch out to others for whom every day is a hump day! Then you wont even notice the "bump" in the road!
Monday
July 11
We were gone and the alarm went off at our home. We don't know why, or who, or what set it off. The cops our neighbors and a friend checked it out. We still do not know why or if anything is gone. The alarm simply tells us something is wrong we will just have to drive home tonight, and check it out. Alarms are good I guess to remind us to check it out, make adjustments, you have any alarms going off? Pay attention, make adjustments but remember you can not always know what is going on... Just trust the maker!
July 8... I really think moving is a funny experience you make several discoveries... you discover that you have too much stuff.... you have stuff you do not need and you are a hoarder and things you keep don't really matter that much. Unless you count... the gifts from treasured friends. I found a picture, a book, and painting... that friends gave me and I treasured again their kindness... you can get rid of stuff you don't need but treasure your friends... just a thought...
Week of July 5 I was just thinking about how hard life can get sometimes. The economy, the stress of jobs and debt, pressure to succeed and accomplish, strain with the kids, and morals that destroy all the solid stuff around us. We need to periodically remind our selves that God is bigger than all of our problems. Don't let winds that are contrary destroy our lives... He is our strength and deliverer. Be encouraged this week with that truth...
Weekend Word
7/4
I read with interest that the graves of Veterans are being neglected in the Philippines. What a tragedy. I also read that the last Vietnam Nam veteran is retiring. I am not sure any body paid attention to that either. I mention that on the 4th of July because we need to remember. Remember that people we do no even know - in places we can not remember or pronounce paid a price for us to be free- thank you on July 4,
Weekend Word
7/2,3
I think in our day we have allowed excuses to rule the day. We don't do a lot of things because ... And we always have an excuse. I am not a part of a church because of my time, the hypocrites, please give it up and just get active!
Friday's Word
7/1/11
In His word God tells us that we get to chose how our day goes ... "this the day the Lord has made, I will chose to rejoice and be glad in it!" so hear we go make up your mind it will be a good day... Because you chose so!

Check Back Often...
